Indian internet penetration far exceeds english print media circulation

While there is no current authentic data on the number of internet users, all available figures point to an internet penetration of well over 5% of India’s population of about 1.1billion.

By contrast the total circulation of all English newspapers and magazines in India stands at about 13 million copies – a little over 1% of the Indian population. The English print media circulation has now stagnated for a long time while the regional media, television and internet have grown substantially.

There is an important lesson for PR planners in these statistics.

    Just a thought,

    5% of India’s population = 55 million

total circulation of all English newspapers = 13 million

total readership of all English newspapers = 13 million * 4(assumed multiple) = 52 million

Can we compare the readership and penetration
instead of circulation and penetration ?

Is the multiple of 4 for computing readership justified?
